BETHEL UDAYE GADAGBA – A GALLANT SOLDIER THAT FOUND GRACE AT THE LATER END!

Birth and Early Life

Bethel Udaye was born in 1950 into the family of Mr and Mrs  Udaye Gadagba in Ekregwhare Quarters of Aladja Town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta, Nigeria.

As a child, he went to Primary school. Immediately after he finished primary school, he went to Warri,in Delta State to work with the State’s Welfare.

Military Life

From being a welfare worker, Bethel was enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 1969. As a soldier, he was very passionate, rugged and courageous. He was a gallant soldier, fearless and bold, who served his country well as a soldier. He served in Anambra and Rivers States, but spent a longer time in Bori Camp, Port Harcourt in Rivers State from where he retired as a corporal after serving for 22 years.

Business Life

Bethel Udaye never believed in laziness or idleness from childhood to when he died. He never allowed the fact that he was a soldier to stop him from having an extra source of income.

He first of all, started off as a truck hawker of kerosine. He was a major dealer in kerosine business in  Bori Camp, Port Harcourt and in the whole of Eliogbolo Town in Obio/Akpor Port Harcourt,while still a soldier.

Then, after retirement, he dabbled into soap production at Elele Alimini, in Emuoha LGA, Rivers State. As if that was not enough, he went into wheelbarrow rentage in which people paid to hire his wheelbarrows. He did other businesses time and space will not permit to be penned down.

Religious Life

Bethel Udaye loved and served God is creator as best as he could in the following churches: Assemblies of God Church, in Port Harcourt, Great Grace Mission in Warri, and The Church of Christ in Port Harcourt and Aladja Town, respectively.

Although he had some challenges that were against his Christian Faith, he nevertheless triumphed in the end as he was led by one of his sons, to become born again, few weeks before he passed on. He found grace in the sight of the Lord. The Lord showed him mercy and forgave his sins! A rare privilege indeed for a soldier of his kind.

His Death

Death is inevitable as it is commonly said and will one day be experienced by everyone.

Papa, as he was fondly called by his children, had his own experience of death after a protracted illness that eventually claimed his life at 12am on 21st November 2023 at the age of 73.
