8 Things You Lose For Being A Talkative Christian

Talkativeness means talking a lot, and also, too much. It is talking without control. It is talking anyhow. It is the opposite of being quiet as a person. Those who talk too much are said to be talkative. The Bible calls it “the multitude of words” Prov.10.19 “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.”

A Christian is not supposed to be talkative. God wants you to study or learn to be quiet as a Christian (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Learn to be quiet! Our Master and Saviour Jesus Christ was a quiet Man. He was sober and vigilant. Be like Him!

If you, a Christian, talks too much, you have a spiritual problem! You need spiritual help. You need to go to God in fervent prayers until you are set free from the grips of talkativeness. Hos.10.12b “for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Don’t quit praying about it until you are convinced that God has done it.

“Talkativeness is a problem; yes, a very big problem, indeed! Yet, the talkative does not see it so. If you are a talkative Christian, it could be as a result of one or all of the following:

1. You Are Not Sanctified

It is either you are not sanctified or you have lost your sanctification experience. Talkativeness is a mark of the “old man”, or the “Adamic nature.” It is a sign of the presence of carnality in your life. When you become sanctified, talkativeness will no longer be seen in your life.

Since the “old man”, “Adamic nature” or carnality has not been dealt with, talkativeness is one of the Adamic traits that will be manifesting in your life. Rom.8.7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” To become sanctified, you must consecrate yourself totally to God , including consecrating your tongue and mouth to God, and pray for sanctification.

2. It May Be Because of Pride

This kind of pride is the one that is manifested as a result of having much knowledge about a thing. Here, you talk too much because you want to show that you “know” more than everybody. Your knowledge is puffing you up. 1Cor.8.1 “Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. “So, you always try to take over every conversation or discussion, and by so doing, you find yourself talking a lot all the time.

3. You Are Seeking Attention to Self

You talk too much because you want to get attention to yourself. Since you want to be noticed in every group you find yourself in, you find yourself talking every now and then.

4. Ignorance

Another reason you talk too much is because you do not know it is a sin to do so. You are ignorant of the word of God that speaks against talkativeness. Talkativeness is one of the sins believers ignorantly commit. The moment they know that talkativeness is a sin or makes them to sin against God, the changes to talking less. Lev.4.2 “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them.”

5. Prayerlessness

Prayerfulness releases grace and power to control the mouth and tongue. A truly prayerful man is quiet and sober. But one that is prayerless will have “lose tongues.” Begin to pray more, you will discover that, you will begin to talk less. Hallelujah!

The 8 Things A Christian Loses For Being A Talkative

A Christian who talks too much will lose too much. Since the word of God is against it, it will not build you up but pull you down both spiritually and physically. Beware of Talkativeness!

The following are eight precious thing a talkative Christian stands the chance of losing one:

1. He Loses Righteousness

The word of God commands us to be slow to speak, and to let our words to be few. Not keeping to those commands from the word of God makes you a dinner.

2. He Loses Friends

Actually, a talkative Christian will lose many friends because people don’t like staying with anybody that is a talkative.

3. He Loses the Power of God

Talkativeness makes a Christian to lose the power of God. Remember the first reason above? That is why! Disobedience to God’s word depletes spiritual power. In addition to that, you will not be able to pray long which is a way of receiving power from God.

4. He Loses Safety

Many Christians have brought problems to themselves because of talkativeness. Some are in prison now because they said what they shouldn’t have said. If they were quiet and put their mouths under control, they would have been safe at home right now.

5. He Loses Life

This is a bit related to the one before it. The only difference is that, this one involves death. “Death” is in the power of the tongue. Prov.18.21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”Some of the people in the mortuary or grave right now talked themselves there!

6. He Loses Respect

Yes, you lose respect! The word of God says, you are a fool by talkativeness. No body honours a fool. Prov.26.1 “As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.”

7. He Loses Heaven

This is the worst! “By your words, you will be condemned” and that condemnation is condemnation to hell.Matt.12.37 “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

8. He Loses the Presence of the Holy Spirit

The Spirit of God in the life of a Christian is usually grieved through talkativeness. When the happens, you lose His Presence. Eph.4.30 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

In order for you to become free from talkativeness, pray about it. Repent and ask God to forgive you the sin of talkativeness. Then, practise talking only when you must. If you have nothing to say, remain quiet.
