Finis Jennings Dake – Author Of Dake’s Bible

Dake was born on 18 October 1902. In 1919, when Dake was 17 years old, he gave his life to Christ by the practical Christian life he saw demonstrated by some genuine Christians and also got baptized by water in the same year. And, in 1920, he experienced baptism in the Holy Ghost after spending days in fervent prayers for the experience.

Dake was once the president of the Great Lakes Bible Institute in Zion, Illinois which was later called North Central Bible College.

Dake had red eyes, not because he was born that way, but because of the reason he gave by himself, “Well, I haven’t been to bed in two days. I have been working on annotating the Bible.”

He was so committed to his Bible project that he denied himself the comfort and luxury of his bed and sleep to carry out the project.

Dake was a lover of books – he had several copies piled up in his room for reading and private study.

The notes in Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible took him one hundred thousand(100,000) hours of digging deep into the study of the Bible to write.

You may be wondering, “What time did he have to accomplish that?” Well, according to Dr. Lester Sumrall, a close friend of his, in his book “Pioneers of Faith” wrote this of him, “He taught in the Bible school by day, and after dinner each night, he would work on his Bible, often working all night long.”

Continuing, he wrote, “He was …a pioneer in the word of God. He learned Greek and Latin by staying up all night. He could tell you the true meaning of every word in the Bible and give you the opinion of various scholars.”

Wow! Good things do not come by easily. And, great men make themselves great in the night when others are sleeping.

Dake had a supernatural memory after he got baptism in the Holy Ghost. According to Dr. Lester, he quote the whole book of Revelation on one occasion, and on another, quoted the New Testament from beginning to end, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Glory to God!

Finis Jennings Dake was an evangelist, a pastor, and an author of many books, pamphlets, and tracks.

He died on 7 July 1987 at the age of 85 years.
