Scripture Reading: “For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth” (3 John 3).
It is not enough to have the truth, we have to also walk in the truth.
Walking in the truth is synonymous with walking in the Spirit. It is living according to the word of God. It also means, being a Bible Practising Christian. Nothing short of that, beloved, is required of us.
Some say they are ‘Spirit-filled’ or ‘full of the word of God. But, their lifestyles do not give God joy. Rebellion and disobedience to God’s word, characterize their lives. What they claim to have and what they practice are not commensurate with each other. May God have mercy on them!
When a man becomes born again, it means, he is no longer going to live the way he likes, but will now live according to the dictates of the word of God.
Disobedience and insubordination to God and His word are no more part and parcel of his life.
Now, he is in the truth. The error or lies of the devil and the deception he was living in are all gone. They are now things of the past. He is expected of God to now walk in the truth he believes.
BUT WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WALK IN THE TRUTH?
It takes the following:
One – Discipline(1 Corinthians 9:27)- Walking in the truth can be very uncomfortable to the flesh. If you like pampering the flesh, you will not go far in walking in the truth. You must discipline your body and put it under control.
Two – Courage(Joshua 1:9) – Yes, courage is required. You may see things or people that would make you afraid, but you just have to ignore your fears and walk into the truth.
Three – Prayer(Luke 18:1) – Prayer makes obedience to God’s word very easy. We need to be prayerful if we must walk in the truth and keep walking in it. It is through prayer that the grace for obedience is released.
Four – Fellowship(Hebrews 10:25) – You need to be in constant fellowship with men and women who love the truth and are also walking in it. Don’t be an island.
Five – Determination and perseverance(Matthew 24:13) – It takes determination and perseverance to walk in the truth. You must refuse to give up walking in the truth, in the face of persecution, trials, and difficulties of life.
Six – Separation(2 Corinthians 6:17) – Whatever or whoever will not help you to walk in the truth is considered an enemy by you. You must separate yourself from them.
If we do the above, then, we shall always walk in the truth till the end, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
