Who was Thomas Ball Barrett?
Thomas Ball Barrett was an author, a preacher and a revivalist who took the message of the baptism in the Holy Ghost to different parts of the world in his day.

Thomas Ball Barrett was born into a Methodist family on July 22, 1862 in Albaston, Cornwall. His parents were both born again and committed to God.

From the age of nine, Thomas began to feel he needed God but did not surrender his life to Christ until he became 12 years old when a friend of his at Tauton, Summersetshire, led him to Christ.

In 1878, Thomas studied art and music with a popular artist and Edvard Greid, respectively. In that same year, he opened a Sunday school in his house for miners.

He later got married to Laura Jakobsen in 1887.

When Thomas was about 20 years old, that is, in 2882, he was ordained a “local preacher.”

Thomas travelled to New York in 1906. While there, he heard about the baptism in the Holy Ghost that was taking place in California. That became a very strong hunger in his heart. He asked the mission at Azuza Street what he should do to have the same experience.

He was told to pray daily for it. He did as he was told and then, on October 7, 1906, he got the experience. This experience revolutionized his life and ministry.

After this he went back to the Methodist church he worshipped with and told the elders about his new xperience. Rather than rejoice with him and desire the same blessing, the Bishop stopped him from being an elder in the church.

Despite that, he spent more years with them until he finally resigned on his own and left the church.

After leaving the church, he went about preaching about the baptism in the Holy Ghost and helping hundreds to enter into the experience.
