How To Receive Holy Ghost Baptism

Receiving Holy Ghost baptism is found difficult by a good number of Christians. But it shouldn’t be so. The Bible says, in Mark.1.8 “I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.”
Every believer ought to have the experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit because it is “the promise of the father” to His children. It is a gift from God to every believer.
You will not be able to fully experience the supernatural in your life and ministry without this blessed gift of Pentecost!
The Bible mentions three types of baptisms:

  1. Water baptism– This is the baptism that every soul born into the Family of God through the new birth has to partake in. You are doing it to show publicly that you are born again. It is done to show that you identify with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. See what the word says in Rom.6.4 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Water baptism is done by immersion, not by sprinkling, in a body of water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost as seen in Matt.28.19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” If you have become born again, you need to submit yourself to water baptism, else you may not make it to heaven because you are refusing to do what God in His word commanded should be done. If the one you did was by speaking, then, go and do another one by immersion which is the one God accepts. Also, if what you did was infant baptism, that is unacceptable to God. Go and do the right one.
  2. The baptism of repentance. In Mark.1.4, the Bible says, “John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” The baptism of repentance is the baptism a sinner, who is convicted of his sin, does to show as an evidence that he wants to turn away from his sins. It is done with water. This type of baptism ended in the time of John the Baptist. Little wonder it is also called ‘The Baptism of John.’ The New Testament Church never practised this type of baptism.
  3. Baptism of suffering- The word of God says, in Matt.20.22, “But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.” Jesus was actually referring to the suffering He was going to face for humanity. Every child of God is called to suffer for Christ. We must pass through great tribulations to enter into the kingdom of God. Don’t run away from suffering, child of God. It is part of our calling.
  4. Baptism in the Holy Spirit- The baptism in the Holy Spirit is the in filling of the Holy Spirit. It is when the Holy Spirit comes upon a believer to possess him and endue him with power for service as seen in Acts.1.8, which says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” When the Holy Ghost comes, He comes into the believer’s life with anointing to break yokes. How does one know He had arrived? When the Holy Spirit arrives, He announces His arrival with a strange language which He enables the believer He is coming to indwell to speak as seen in the following scriptures: Acts.2.4, “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” And in Acts.19.6, “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”

How To Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit
To receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, do the following:
*Be saved from sin. The baptism is for only those that have been saved from sin by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Saviour. This is the very first thing to do. It is the foundation.
*Be purified in your heart. Your heart will need to be purged and purified of every form and shade of inbred sin. He is called the HOLY Spirit. So, if carnality, worldliness and lusts are in your heart, He will not come.
*Passionately desire the baptism. He always comes to the heart that needs Him above anything this world can offer. Matt.5.6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
*Pray in faith knowing that God is willing to give and will give it. Don’t stop praying for it. Pray and praise God steadily abandoning yourself in His presence. While you are lost there in the place of prayer and worship, the Holy Spirit will fill you to overflowing and give you utterance to speak in an unknown tongue, that is, an unknown language. Luke.11.13 tells us, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”

When you receive the baptism, you have to maintain it by giving yourself regularly to prayer, the word and the service of God. Amen.
